The results are based primarily on an analysis of off-road mapping, which was conducted in nine selected point bars of the upper stream of the Sava River. Human interference and functional significance of point bars have been researched, too. As a result of our research a graphic model of succession on the point bars has been created.

This paper highlights potential advantages of nuclear techniques to assess soil redistribution magnitude and presents assessment of the initial 137Cs fallout in undisturbed site, located in Šalamenci, Eastern Slovenia. The 137Cs background activity in the selected forested site was evaluated at 7316 ± 2525 Bq m–2 with a coefficient of variation of 34 % (n = 20). This information will be used in future investigations to assess erosion and sedimentation processes of adjacent agricultural fields with 137Cs method.

Author tries, following Braudel’s note that »lanscape is not referential framework of research but the referential framwork of research is only problem«, to analyse importance of Slovenia–Croatia state boundary. He does it through the political-geographic prism of betweenness of the Balkan’s Europe that is of edge and contact position of territories of both countries, for what the state boundary looses both its importance and function.

The main goal is to describe the main process in spatial urban and suburban development in Slovenia and at the same time to highlight the discordance between the goals and objectives of spatial policies and actual urban development. In this context reasons for poor and inadequate implementation of European and national strategic policies of urban development at local (municipal) level are presented.

This contribution aims at drawing attention to the European development guidelines and educational and research activities in relation to future development of geography discipline and the position of geography as a science in the Republic of Slovenia.
