104 and 105 consumers were interviewed in Penedo (PEN) and Porto Real do Colégio (PRC) street markets, Alagoas. In Penedo, 31 consumers said tambaqui was their favorite species for consumption, while in Porto Real do Colégio, 28 mentioned it as their preference. The objectives of the interview were the following: to have a socioeconomical profile of the consumers and to get to know people’s fish consumption’s preferences Men were the majority of the interviewees in both cities and the average age was 41.77 (PEN) and 44.62(PRC). Low education and family income were common characteristics. In PEN, the preferred and most consumed kinds of meat were fish and chicken (33.33% and 33.33%), while in PRC beef was the favorite (40.74%) and the most consumed one (37.04%). Fish consumption was high among consumers that declared tambaqui as their favorite species. 66.67% of consumers in PEN and 61.53% in PRC stated that they consumed fish more than once a week. Most consumers preferred to buy live or fresh tambaquis and they thought that the price R$ 6.08 (PEN) and 5.48 (PRC) was a reasonable one. They also said that they would not buy it if the price exceeded R$ 10.00. The vast majority of respondents considered the quality of the tambaquis good or excellent.
