Experiences and thoughts on high forest silviculture

Abstract

The recent debate on silviculture should take into account various points of view. The holistic view is not contradicting the reductionistic approach necessary in research. Complex systems can be analysed by individuating all variables acting but detecting those which have a leading role in the functioning of the system. Silviculture is a human activity and technical choices can change, even in short time, owing to new requirement of the society. Rights of the forests involve also the duties of mankind.
