Abstract

SUPPORT FOR DEMOCRACY AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN FRANCE’S FOREIGN POLICY The article attempts to analyze French foreign policy in the area of supporting democracy and human rights, addressing a number of key research questions. First, it examines the international role France seeks to play in the world, and whether its designation in the literature as a cultural and normative power also includes the promotion of democratic values. Second, the article analyzes how the support and promotion of democracy are presented in France’s foreign policy strategies and program documents. It also considers whether these actions can be classified as part of a „political model” or a „development model” of democracy promotion. Finally, the article investigates the subject matter and geography of France’s pro-democratic policy, attempting to determine in which areas and regions France is actively engaged in promoting democratic values.
