Abstract
Julian Gállego’s capacity for enjoyment was one of the facets of his personality which was reflected clearly in his writings. His irony was a sign of his extraordinary intelligence, which he used as a means of imbuing rigour and seriousness into the subjects he was analysing. The art of the past and that of the present were always of equal interest to him, purely conscious of a problem that his teacher Francastel used to warn about: the danger of ending up forcing reality in an attempt to mitigate the difficulties of its interpretation, which could lead to an apparently impeccable discourse, free of irregularities, but unreal. Minimal art could exemplify this problem, which is very common when dealing with recent art.
