This paper aims to reflect on the current teaching of design, based on the doctoral thesis developed by Katja Tschimmel in Europe, which refers mainly to the use of creativity. In order to enhance reflection and facilitate the questioning of the pedagogical aspects of teaching design, we also used principles presented by Edgar Morin. The current teaching of design, particularly in Portugal, does not provide students with opportunities to reflect on their learning, becoming restricted to the technical education. We compared this approach with Bauhaus’s education system. Nevertheless, creativity and reason – basic principles in the practice of the designer – have not been properly stimulated in undergraduate courses, which can lead to a poor performance of the design professional.
