Regenerative endodontics in Saudi Arabia: A review of knowledge-based surveys
Abstract
Regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) offer a promising approach in dental treatment by aiming to restore damaged tooth structures and promote tissue regeneration. Despite their clinical success, the adoption of REPs in Saudi Arabia remains limited, primarily due to knowledge gaps and varying attitudes among dental professionals. This review explores the level of knowledge, attitudes, and awareness of REPs among Saudi dental professionals and students based on findings from survey-based studies. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using Web of Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar to identify relevant cross-sectional surveys. The quality of the included studies was evaluated using the Appraisal Tool for Cross-Sectional Studies, and a thematic analysis was performed. The review included nine surveys, which generally indicated a positive perception of REPs. However, significant gaps in clinical knowledge were reported, with socioeconomic and contextual factors influencing attitudes. Common themes and subthemes were identified across studies. The findings highlight the need for improved education, enhanced collaboration, and more rigorous research efforts to support the wider adoption of REPs in Saudi Arabia.
